shoes for arthritic toes

Question
I am an RN- standing and walking in the Emergency Room. I have osteo arthritis in the toes , have had bone spurs removed from the metatarsals. Have wide feet with thick orthotics. I am looking at either W128XAFHI Apex Aetrex Women's Performance Walker - White or Ambulator Biomechanical Women's Diabetic Shoes - Brown Nubuck Lace-up  W0062BAFHI. Do they run true to size- or run small? Do you have any suggestions other than these choices? Thank you.

Answer

Dear Ms. Glasgow:

Thank you for your inquiry.  The sizes for diabetic shoes are in line with the sizing for regular shoes.  However, level of fit will vary from style to style and from individual to individual.

Therefore, in selecting the appropriate shoes start with you regular shoe size.  If the shoes do not fit as well as you would like, you have the option of returning the shoes for exchange of a different size and pay only the shipping fees. You may also wish to take a look at the following shoe styles.

insulin storage

Question
how long can insulin stay out of a fridge without any affect on the product and at what tempeture

Answer

Insulin does not work well when it is kept for too long or is exposed to extreme temperatures. If you buy several bottles of insulin at once, keep the unopened ones in your refrigerator. (Do not put them in the freezer. Insulin clumps at temperatures below 36F.) Before you open a new bottle, check the date printed on it. If it is more than a month past that date, don't use the insulin -- it is too old.

If you use up a whole insulin bottle in a month or less, keep the bottle you are currently using at room temperature. It will stay fresh for up to month without refrigeration, as long as its temperature stays under 86F. If you would rather keep all insulin in the refrigerator, make sure to warm up the insulin before injecting it. Cold insulin can make the shot uncomfortable.
