anti roll out mattress

Question
When my mom was in a nursing home she had a mattress that was shaped like a barrell. It helped her from rolling out of the bed. I think it may have been just a thick pad that was actually on top of the bed mattress. It was covered with plastic. Do you know where these may be available? Thanks

Answer

The rolls may have actually been put on top of the mattress underneath the linens.  To keep your mother from rolling out of bed you may wish to consider some other alternatives such as:

Foot Massage

Question
Greetings! I am a certified massage therapist. I generally do foot massage/reflexology with my hands. But, can you recommend something hygienic and/or disposable for my clients' feet (e.g. socks) that can be used with an electric foot & calf massager? I need a bulk order. I looked at your shoe (foot?) covers and foam slippers but am still unsure. Thanks for your assistance. Peace & Wellness!

Answer

Instead of shoe covers or slippers, you may wish to consider using tubular stockinettes.  Stockinettes are elastic and come in rolls of different diameter and lengths. The rolls can be cut into different size segments which can then be used to cover clients' feet and/or calfs. To view our selection, please click on the link below or simply type in the word stockinette in the Product Search window.  For more information, please call us toll free at 877-706-4480.

Tens unit vs. alpha-stim

Question
MSEC,I injured my SI joint a year ago causing SI dysfunction along with a wide area of chronic muscle pain. At the time of injury, I was on a high dose of pain pills for my TMJ pain. My lower back was in a lot of pain but the pain pills masked a lot of the pain. I went to the chiropractor with little results (he did not find the SI joint injury). I then went in for Alpha-Stim treatment and received an Alpha-Stim unit to use at home on a daily basis. I used it daily and got very little results from it. Three months ago I was taken off the pain pills. The pain became very chronic. I could not stand for more than 5 seconds, could not sit for more than 5 - 10 minutes, could not sleep through the night, could only lay on the opposite side of injured joint which applied painful pressure in my lower spine because of it, and lost ability to lift items. The pain was so chronic I could not do anything. The Alpha-Stim proved not to be successful in managing my pain but I continued to use it. A month later I had to rush into physical therapy because of the chronic pain, I was desperate. At physical therapy they discovered what the real problem was, that the SI joint had been injured. They immediately introduced me to a Tens unite. Immediately after "one time use" my pain was reduced. The physical therapist I see is a SI joint specialist. I am still not doing exercises at this time, just light pressure. He also uses cranial therapy on my lower back which has been successful a long with the tens unit. I have mentioned to him that the Tens unit alone has helped so much on my chronic pain and he agreed. I am continuing to get good results and the pain has been reduced about 75%. Can you explain to me why the tens unit has been so successful and the Alpha-Stim has proven to be so ineffective. I would greatly appreciate this explanation. Thank you so very much

Answer

We appreciate your inquiry.  For pain management, a TENS Unit is highly more effective than any Alpha-Stim unit available.  Alpha-Stim treatment is more about reducing stress and anxiety than treating pain.  However, if you're experiencing a lot of pain, no amount of stress or anxiety reduction is going to help you feel any better.

Not only do TENS Units block pain signals to the brain, they activate the release of endorphins and encaphalins, the body's natural painkillers.  The effectiveness of TENS therapy has been clinically researched and tested for decades.  This is not the case with Alpha-Stim therapy.

Diabetic Pumps

Question
Lately I have been having glucose swings. I was wondering if the Diabetic Pump is better at stablizing glucose levels. Is it more sanitary and effective? Since I routinely go to the gym, does it interfere with a weight lifting program? Does a pump make managing diabetes easier?Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I am trying my best to control this horrible disease.

Answer

Dear Sam,

We appreciate your inquiry.  Please follow the link below for information on:

Insulin Dispensing Equipment

Diabetic pumps are safe, sanitary, and effective.  For the athlete, they are an efficient way to manage diabetes.  However, it is highly advisable that you seek the advice of your physician or diabetic specialist to consider the best options for your individual case.
