There are many different options for teachers, professors and doctors to consider when selecting an anatomical model. Of course the type of program or the type of medical practice is going to have an impact on the type of anatomical model that will most closely meet your professional needs.

For those professionals wanting a full skeletal type of anatomical model there are also several different options. Many doctor's offices, lecture halls, and hospitals will have full size physiological skeleton anatomical model within the patient examination rooms or classrooms to allow the doctor to point out and demonstrate any issues with the skeletal structure. These life sized models are fully flexible and bend at the joints exactly as an actual human skeleton does. There is also the option to have the ligaments added to the skeleton, ideal for explaining the interaction between ligaments and joint movement to students or patients.

These skeletons stand approximately five to six feet in height and are mounted on a stand complete with wheels for easy transportation between rooms. Anatomical model skeletons will either mount on the stand through the skull or by attaching to the pelvis. For those that prefer a smaller version, mini anatomical model skeletons that are about three feet tall are also available. Special dust covers are also available so the anatomic model remains clean and dust free between use.

For classroom study and teaching, disarticulated anatomical model skeletons are an excellent choice. These life sized models are numbered for easy identification, plus they also can be color coded. Color coding is used to indicate muscle insertions and muscle origins, so the skeleton can be used for full muscle and skeletal teaching and lab work. These disarticulated anatomical models are available in both full skeletons as well as half or part skeletons. Typically with these types of models one of the hands or feet will be wired together while the other is provided with the bones separated.

For some teaching and research work a full anatomical model of a skeleton may not be required and perhaps just one particular area of the body needs to be available. Anthropological anatomical skull models are used in biology, anthropology and other sciences to study the various skull types found around the world. Each anatomical model of a skull is caste or designed from an actual skull, meaning that researchers can work off the models rather than having to travel the world to view the actual skull itself.

Dentists and dental students will find the anatomical model teeth and jaws a great way to study, in depth, the bone and dental structure of the human mouth. These models can be of one specific type of tooth such as a canine, molar or incisor, or the models can be a full lower or upper jaw. Half jaw anatomical model options are also available, both with healthy and diseased conditions displayed.

Working with anatomical models, both for teaching purposes as well as for assisting patients to see what is going on is extremely helpful. Having anatomical models in the office or classroom is a great way to aid in developing understanding and foster exploration and learning.
