There are few professions in the world that require quite so much stuff for everyday work than the medical field.  Of course, depending on the type of practice you are in or the type of treatments performed, your medical equipment needs are going to change.  For example, a pediatrician is unlikely to have much need for an EKG machine, but a heart specialist will.  Even the different types of surgeons have individualized specific equipment and supplies they use in their work.  One aspect of surgical work that is the same whether you are male or female, a doctor, nurse, or technician, if you are in the operating room for any reason you need a surgical cap for safety.

Most of us are familiar with the disposable greenish blue surgical caps used by many medical professionals.  They work well enough, but there really isn’t excitement or fun about the whole thing.  Of course, being focused on the work is an essential part of the OR.  However, for the moral of the medical team involved, not to mention your personal sense of style, choosing surgical caps that are personalized with your favorite colors and images is just a way to add something special to your day.  Many medical professionals also choose to have their own surgical caps embroidered with their name and title or something else with special meaning to them.  It sure bets wearing the same thing everyone else has on.

It doesn’t matter if you are a male or female, there are certain features you should always look for in your surgical caps.  Unless you like the disposable varieties, the type of material used in the construction of the caps is very important.  You will find cotton breathes better, especially under the harsh lights of the operating room, than any other type of fabric.  Even with that said some medical professionals prefer to have their surgical caps made from nylon.  Nylon is water resistant and can prevent staining from the normal mishaps of the OR.  The type of material you choose is a matter of personal preference.

The style of the surgical caps has a lot to do with how well they work for the doctor or nurse as well.  Women medical professionals tend to do better with the bouffant or bonnet styles of surgical caps. They allow space for longer hair and often come with an adjustable cord to ensure the perfect fit every time.  You can also expect them to have a wide band at the front so there are no unpleasant and unattractive forehead lines left behind by an elastic piece.  The elastic is usually left for the back of the cap.

Men typically wear skull cap style surgical caps.  They are designed to fit to the individual with long ties in the back.  Some have some elastic for a snugger fit, but that feature is really up to the tastes of the person.  Whether you are a man or woman in the surgical medical field, it’s nice to know that you can find the right type of surgical cap for you and look good doing it.
