Pressure sores are caused by the lack of blood circulation and exposure to air.  A quality cushion will eliviate some of the discomfort, but without getting blood circulation to the affected area, the problem will persist.

The diameter of the rod at the base is .634 inch.  The rod is mounted onto the frame of the stretcher which extends up 40 inches from the stretcher frame, when the rod is fully extended, it is 68-74 inches long.
